Graphite Goddess – Rachel
Excellent work Rachel. This drawing took approximately 7 hours and thousands upon thousands of pencil lines. Using tight hatch marks, and several different pencil grades, Rachel layered the marks to develop deep dark values. She was also sensitive enough to mind the light values of the drawing. Keep up the great work and good luck with the quill point drawing that you are currently rendering.
Serpenleofly – Steffie
This sculpture is so excellent, I have very little to say about it because I am so impressed. Perhaps in a few days I will edit this post with more constructive compliments but at this moment I am speechless, and I hope you find yourself at a loss of words as well. Wonderful work Steffie!!!
Cookie Points – Adrian
Adrian, using Georges Seurat technique of pointillism, created a magnificent painting of cookies. Adrian has been with us at the school for nearly a year and has done so well at improving his artistic abilities. We look forward to the year to come and all the fun that he brings to our studio environment.
Star Gazing – Alex
Alex is one of our newest students and she is holding her own amongst the other students. I was shocked to see how wonderful this watercolor came out. I’m looking forward to her improving her abilities over time. I am also happy to have her as an addition to the class because she adds plenty of fun to the scene. Good work Alex!
Exploding Rainbow Blocks – Kara
This is a very great example of first point perspective and Radial Symmetry. Kara, with focus and a gentle water colorists touch, has gone beyond my expectations. There is depth due to line, shading, and first point perspective. Kara at the age of ten is not only talented in dance, but also art!
Double Trouble 3D – Luke
Luke you did it! This project takes a great amount of time, skill, and patience to complete. Using papier-mâché and acrylic paints, Luke took his drawing of double trouble, constructed it, and painted it. There is no other feeling of accomplishment similar to taking an original concept and creating it as a three dimensional object. I could see through Luke’s expression that he had realized that feeling of accomplishment and had also learnt that through handwork and time, quality art is produced.
P.S. Teresa commented on this sculpture stating that, “there was a peaceful intensity to this creation.”
Pointilistic Panda – Chris
Chris has come a long way from his first day at our art class till now. His confidence and concentration is progressing greatly. We are very proud of you Chris. This is an exceptional work focused on pointilism technique. Keep it up!
Native American – Austin
Austin drew the line work of this image using the Blind Contour Drawing method. He drew his hands without looking at the paper and without raising the tip of the pen from the paper surface. He then drew the face of a Native American portrait using the same technique. Finally, he then scanned the drawing and colored it using Adobe Photoshop. I find it to be excellent work and reminiscent of an album cover from a hip indie band. Great work Austin.
Pretty Bird – Eileen
Using oil paint and an assortment of brushes, Eileen was able to create this magnificent painting. Working in a photorealistic style and adding layers of paint known as glazing and scuffling, she patiently focused on the canvas and eventually arrived to this success. For all the bird watchers out there… can you identify this species of bird?
Great work Eileen, at the age of 14, you will become even more amazing with your skill in the near future!
