Koala Okay! - Isabelle

July 3rd, 2014:
Hooray for Isabelle!!! After so much time invested in this project. She did a couple preliminary sketches, a couple trials on line quality and worked for hours on the shading. Some of the work was also done at home.

With all that dedicated work, motivational pushing from her mother and myself, and some sweat and tears, Isabelle pulled through and earned the honor of being recognized by the GFWC Dublin / San Ramon Women’s Club. She won Second Place in the 2014 Student Art and Photography Contest.

I am so proud of you Izzy!!! Hope all is well on your summer travels and looking forward to working at the studio with you.

June 30th, 2013:
Koala Okay! is a stippled drawing that my student Isabelle created. It is called Okay! because Isabelle had a habit of saying Okay in a drifty confused way when she first started this drawing. The drawing is beyond Okay though, it is fantastic!

Through this difficult project Isabelle has developed a better understanding of lighting, shading, and creating smooth gradients. Also she developed something invaluable… extreme ninja assassin like patience and a tolerance for work. I have noticed that she focuses better during class now and is much less distractible.

Excellent work, excellent development into a civilized human being, excellent attitude Isabelle!.

For your very first project at this studio, this is a masterpiece.

The line quality is perfect, the color shading is amazingly well done, and the depth of the work looks very appealing.

You have a lot of patience and a lot of concentration which will make you a fantastic artist. I know that you are not pursuing art as your college major and that you are enjoying art for your own personal self. Also I know that you are interested in utilizing you art portfolio for your college application so that you can go forward into studying something scientific. That is fantastic.

I am glad to have students of different studies that embrace and love art to enrich their lives. I se a different appreciation for art from students such as your self than from those students that are pursuing art as a future career.

Bottle Nosed - Janani

This is absolutely spectacular work!!! Great Janani and congratulations. This is so well done, I believe we need to place it into an art competition.

I think that you really came along and understood the many different techniques that we spoke about. It was not only stippling that you really took to understanding when you successfully completed this project.

Excellent and I am very excited about the next project.

Sanjana, I’m a little disappointed in you. Your work came out great. The hatching exercises really helped you develop the hatching method. The problem is that apparently you are not practicing at home.

You need to continue practicing every single technique I teach you so you do not get rusty. Art is not like riding a bicycle. If you don’t use it, you lose it! Practice at home and make sure you bring me something to see weekly so I can see that you are working on these things at home.

Now aside from that, you are a fantastic student and I really appreciate having you at the studio. Keep up the great work and congrats on completing your more recent work.

We will start your painting This coming Monday!

Ayana, aka super star or miss hollywood, you are doing spectacular.

Your line quality came out very well, but we still need to work on craftsmanship and your coloring and fading at times is a bit rough.

What you accomplished though is still very good, but I know we can improve it because you are a super star!

I am very happy with this piece you completed. The line work is excellent, and the shading is superbly done with a lot of attention to detail and the light source.

Great work, after this project I’m sure you wish to be resting like Buddy.

Aanya, you are spectacular student and so happy you found the studio.

To think that you did not complain for one second as we worked on this stippling project. That proves to me that you are an elite. People that can stipple are more likely to be successful in their futures. No matter what it is that they choose, they become great… guaranteed.

Okay, well have a great day and keep working on your current painting patiently.

Finally Home - Kailyn

Kailyn, you are truly amazing. Great work on your first project.

Your line quality is looking really fantastic. Your shading has been coming along much better. We need to work on being more delicate with the colors. That means not pouching as hard. Just a bit softer on some parts.

I am very impressed with your work so far and gal that you leveled up to Porcupine level.
