My name is Mari Shurtz and I hope to enthusiastically engage a diversity of students through creativity and rigor which helps them to develop a sense of self expression, respect and exploration. My greatest mentors have been studio artists, musicians, and performers because of their ability to transform our minds. Through art we learn how to bring ideas to life, give and receive criticism, and feel proud of accomplishments. I believe the world is in need of creative problem solvers who can support a more sustainable, collaborative and beautiful future.
I completed a B.A. in Art and International Studies from Pitzer College in 2008 and recently received a 200 hour yoga teacher training. Prior to working at OAM Studios, I was the Sustainability Art Specialist at the Crissy Field Center in San Francisco where I managed arts workshop programing for the National Park Service, Presidio Trust, and Parks Conservancy visitors. In addition to teaching art, I enjoy instructing children’s yoga and gymnastics classes with Oakland based Fitness In Transit.
